Biography: 

Aarnoud Rommens is an independent scholar, researcher and translator living in London, Ontario (Canada). His research interests are eclectic and include (post-)comics, art theory, zines, Brazilian Antropofagia, visual art, cannibalism, semiocapitalism, censorship, Latin American avant-garde art, among others.

Several essays on these topics have been published in journals such as SubStance, Mosaic, Captures, Image [&] Narrative, and Poetics Today. He is author of ‘Joaquín Torres-García: Constructive Universalism and the Inversion of Abstraction’ (Routledge, 2017), ‘WREK THE ALGORITHM!’ (co-authored with artist Olivier Deprez, éditions IMAGEs, 2019), while the book ‘Antropofagia: Avant-Garde Emblematics’ is forthcoming with Brill.

He is the main editor of the recently published 2-volume ‘Comics and Abstraction / Abstraction et bande dessinée’ (University Press of Liège & La Cinquième Couche, 2019).

He has taught graduate and undergraduate courses at The Centre for the Study of Theory and Criticism, the Department of Visual Arts and the Faculty of Information and Media Studies (Western University, Canada), as well as the Cultural Studies Department (Trent University, Canada) and has given guest lectures at the University of Liège (Belgium).
