Biography:
I am a nursing professor, researcher, and practitioner, certified in both women’s health and gerontology with a PhD in nursing and anthropology. My clinical work took place in many settings from hospitals to private offices and storefront clinics to telehealth. My patients ranged from high-risk newborns to chronically ill elderly in both intensive care and primary care. In my role as a nursing professor, I felt compelled to confront racism, incivility, and ageism, ultimately ending my career in the academy. Currently, I’m living in Switzerland, conducting ethnographic research focused on the role of culture in health in Bergen, Norway.
Current research areas:
Ethnographic research looking at the connection between culture and health in Bergen, Norway. I hope to expand on this research over the coming year, in collaboration with a Norwegian colleague, to compare cultural changes before and after the oil.
Recent scholarly activity:
I am working on a paper right now that was inspired by my ethnographic research in Bergen. It' addressing the meaning behind the word 'health' and proposing a new construct for it's use.
Recent publications:
This year I posted two publications on Zenodo as pre prints.
