Biography: 

Naji Abi-Hashem is a clinical and cultural psychologist, independent scholar, public speaker, author, consultant, and a visiting professor. He is Lebanese-American involved in writing, editing, providing training, international service, presenting at conferences, global networking, cross-cultural work, and caring for the caregivers.

He received a Ph.D. (1992) and M.A. (1987) in Clinical Psychology from Rosemead Graduate School of Psychology at Biola University in California; M.Div. (1985) in Pastoral Care & Ethnic Studies from Golden Gate Theological Seminary; B.S. (1984) in Psychology from California Baptist College (now UNiversity), B.Th. (1980) in Theological & Biblical Studies from the Arabic Theological Seminary in Lebanon, and T.S. (1974) in Electronics from the L'Institut Téchnique Supérieur in Beirut, Lebanon. He is Fully Licensed in the State of Washington since 1995 -- License Nº PY1900.

Dr. Abi-Hashem has taught or lectured at several universities, colleges, institutions, and seminaries in the United States and abroad. He supports local leaders and helping-professionals (teachers, healthcare providers, social workers, caregivers, pastors, humanitarian aids, etc.), especially those who are serving on the front lines or under significant pressures.

He is an Active Member in a number of professional associations and international organizations. He also holds a Diplomate status in a couple of Academies. He has served on Board of Directors of ten national and international agencies, mainly NGOs and non-profits organizations.

Formerly, a Staff Psychologist with the Meier Clinics (formerly Minirth-Meier New Life Clinics) and affiliated hospital programs, conducting inpatient and outpatient counseling and therapies for individuals, couples, families, and groups in the Seattle area, Washington (1992-2004). Also, he was appointed as a Scholar in Residence at two Graduate institutions: The Graduate School of Intercultural Studies at Fuller (FTS) in Pasadena and Graduate Theological Union (GTU) in Berkeley, California, USA (2006-2008).

He is the Featured Therapist in a Professional Training DVD, produced by the American Psychological Association (APA) in 2008, on Multicultural Counseling, entitled, “Working with Arab Americans” http://www.apa.org/pubs/videos/4310843.aspx
And a 4-hour continuing education workshop as part of the APA online training library on-demand-videos in 2016. Was the annual presenter of this CEU workshop at APA for 10 consecutive years.

Dr. Abi-Hashem writes and speaks on matters related to psychology, counseling, cross-cultural work, social issues, religious faiths & values, worldview & humanity, Middle Eastern mentalities, psychotherapy approaches, immigrants & refugees, globalization & trans-nationalism, peace-making, cultural heritage & dynamics, pastoral care & counseling, loss & trauma, grief & bereavement, mental health & spirituality, psycho-social aspects of politics, fundamentalism, extremism, and radicalism.

So far, he has made about 110 professional presentations at various scholarly conferences and conventions, and has produced about 110 publications in form of journal articles, book-chapters, encyclopedia entries, training videos, and general essays.

Currently, he is an Associate with Member Care International (MCI since 2010) and a Non-Resident Scholar at the Baylor University's Institute for Studies of Religion (ISR): An Interdisciplinary Research Center (since 2019).

Dr. Abi-Hashem divides his time between the United States and his native homeland Beirut, Lebanon.
