Biography: 

Kiku Day (BA London; MFA Mills; PhD London) is an ethnomusicologist and professional shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute) player. She spent eleven years in Tokyo studying honkyoku, repertoire of Zen Buddhist monks with Okuda Atsuya. She performs traditional pieces, new music and improvisation. Kiku has a PhD in ethnomusicology and has worked as an external lecturer at the Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus, and Aarhus University, Denmark. She is a founding member of the European Shakuhachi Society, for which she served 10 years as the chairperson. She was the chair of the executive board of the World Shakuhachi Festival 2018 in London.
