Biography:

Becky Tipper is an independent researcher and writer with a PhD in Sociology from the University of Manchester. She is especially interested in how fiction and storytelling can inform academic research, and she has worked on several collaborations with academics -- producing short fictional stories to share research findings in novel ways and with new audiences.

She is the author (with Leah Gilman) of the book Fiction and Research: a guide to connecting stories and inquiry (Policy Press, 2024), which is part of Policy Press' Creative Research Methods in Practice series. The book critically explores how researchers across the social sciences, STEM, and humanities disciplines might engage with fiction in their work and showcases a variety of case studies.

Becky's other academic interests include inter-disciplinary human-animal studies, qualitative and ethnographic research, and the sociology of childhood and families.
