Following long discussion, the NCIS Board of Directors has resolved to increase the percentage of stable regular income (i.e. from member fees) distributed as grants in 2020. It was agreed that the current Conference Support Grants (CFS) and Research Grants (RG) of $250 each were too low to make a substantive contribution, especially with conference attendance generally costing at least $1000.

The Board have therefore resolved:

- to preserve the rhythm of three cycles per year (deadlines: Feb 1, June 1, Oct 1);
- to award two grants per cycle of up to $600 each in 2020. This amount will be reviewed  annually in January;
- to retain the Grant Awards Committee’s flexibility to award these grants as Conference Support Grants or Reasearch Grants in each cycle, depending on the number and quality of the applications;
- to continue to carry forward any grant monies not disbursed to the following grant cycle.
We are also revising the existing grant criteria, so with this in mind we will not be accepting any new grant applications before April 1, 2020, by which time the revised criteria will have been finalized and posted on line at This still leaves a 2-month window for members to apply for the Summer grant cycle (deadline June 1, 2020).
