Biography:
Dr Jeanette Hannaford researches within the intersecting spaces of language and literacy, pedagogy, and digital culture in home and school spaces, particularly in the lives of globally mobile children.
Dr Hannaford has had a wide-range of teaching experiences in the areas of Children's Literacy, English Literature, English as a Second Language, and Music, in Australia and overseas. In her early career, she taught Senior Secondary students and was a Faculty Co-ordinator in Australia. Her first encounter with an international educational setting occurred when she became Registrar of European Students at an English language school in Oxford, UK. From 2005 – 2010, she taught in a large International (IB) School in Europe. Commencing in 2010, Dr Hannaford directed her attention to full-time research and writing projects. Her PhD dissertation, Technology, Home, Gender: the Literacies of Third Culture Kids, was an extensive multicase study of the experiences of a group of twenty International School students. She has spoken about 'globally mobile children' at a number of international conferences, and publishes for a range of audiences. Recent papers include: Hannaford, J. While holding an Australian passport, Dr Hannaford sees herself as a member of the international community. She currently resides in New York City, where she co-ordinates a monthly scholarly discussion group, the JBCC.

Forthcoming research:
I am currently working on a longitudinal multicase study tracing the experiences of globally mobile children at the ages of 8, 11 and 14 years. The next round of these interviews, when the three young people are 17 years old, will be undertaken in July 2018 in Vienna, Austria & New York, USA.

I co-ordinate a writing group for external PhD candidates living in NYC.
