Biography:

I am a native of India with an undergraduate and graduate degrees in Economics and a doctoral degree in Environmental and Energy Policy. I have lived and worked in different countries like India, Mexico, Canada, and the United States where I live since 2010 having come to attend Grad School. My research interest lies under the big umbrella called Environmental Studies with specific expertise in environmental sociology and public policy.

Current research areas:

My current research areas include:
1. Energy justice: Climate change impacts worldwide have spurred the growth of renewable energy policies worldwide. Though these alternative forms of energy production have benefits society and the environment, they can also be marred by the similar injustices of the fossil fuel sector if not monitored carefully. I am interested in finding out how the transition to renewable energy sector can be just and sustainable.
2. Exit coal: My second and growing research interest area is in understanding what exiting coal as a source of energy would mean for mining communities in areas of coal mining that have a very long history so much so that mining is part of the identity of the people in the region as it has provided jobs for generations. I am interested in finding out how people can adjust to the change, how they can redefine their lives, how can youngsters connect with their heritage, how the heritage can be preserved for the future generations, and what new skills they can learn so as to find livelihood opportunities and adjust to a life beyond coal. My two areas of study in North-eastern Pennsylvania and Eastern coal mining areas of India
3. I am also starting to learn about the circular economy and sharing economy to understand how they can lead to more decentralized in order to operate beyond big corporate control.
