NCIS Membership Options
Individual Membership
Individuals seeking membership are welcome to apply online.
NCIS welcomes people who are pursuing knowledge in or across any fields, but who do not have full-time positions and/or are not graduate students at an institution of higher education. Contingent faculty, part-time faculty, high school teachers, retirees, and any others active in research and scholarship are welcome to join.
Benefits of membership in NCIS include:
- Eligibility for NCIS grants and awards
- Discount accommodations at Club Quarters locations throughout the world
- Being eligible to run for Board elections and vote for the Board
- Having your contact information and area(s) of research listed in the NCIS Member Directory and having access to the membership database to search for other independent scholars in your area
- A subscription to the quarterly electronic newsletter, The Independent Scholar
- Having the option (for an additional fee) to host a web page on the NCIS site that can include scholarly papers, cv and other Word or pdf documents.
Affiliate Society Membership
Affiliate Societies seeking membership are welcome to apply online. Affiliate societies should be active groups seeking to assist or promote the work of independent scholars. Affiliates may be inter- or multi-disciplinary or may focus on a single discipline or activity of interest to independent scholars. Regional societies, writing groups, study groups, and other similar organized societies are welcome.
