With a Ph.D. from China’s Peking University and a J.D. from Valparaiso University, Dr. Liu is an independent scholar, bilingual writer, and licensed attorney. He has published over 10 books and numerous articles on topics ranging from law, philosophy, religion, history, politics, art, to cultural studies. His books were published in Chinese and English in China and the U.S. 

 

Before becoming a scholar and lawyer, Dr. Liu took various types of jobs in China. Starting from his teenage days, he worked as a quarry laborer, a factory worker, a debt collector, a middle school teacher, a librarian, and a college lecturer. In 1999, after earning his Ph.D. in philosophy from Peking University, he moved to the U.S. and continued his career as an independent scholar. His books published after he moved to the U.S. include Chinese Philosophy in an Era of Globalization (State University of New York Press, 2004), American Case Law for Chinese Readers (China Law Press, 2004), Original Sin and Social Justice (Huadong Normal University Press, 2006). 

 

Dr. Liu currently lives in Texas. While practicing law, he is writing a book about constitutionalism.
