NCIS members wishing to submit a proposal must send a project narrative, projected budget, and c.v. in PDF format to Kendra Preston Leonard, Chair of the Awards Committee, at caennen@gmail.com.

NCIS ANNOUNCES EISENSTEIN-DELACY ARTICLE PRIZE FOR 2008
The biannual Eisenstein Prize was established in April 1993 and was named for Elizabeth Lewisohn Eisenstein, Professor of History at American University (1959-1979) and the University of Michigan (1975-1985), in recognition of her long-standing support of NCIS.
In 2007, the NCIS Board decided to also honor Margaret DeLacy, Elizabeth’s daughter and another long-time supporter of NCIS, by renaming the prize, which will now be called the Eisenstein-DeLacy Article Prize. Margaret was the originator of the prize in honor of her mother, Elizabeth Eisenstein, thus in honoring Margaret we honor two generations in one family who placed an inestimable value on independent scholars and on NCIS. We could not have made the change to an annual award without the generosity of Board member, Dr. Yosef Wosk, whose contribution insures the award for the next five years at which time NCIS will renew the funding.
The prize will now become an annual one and remains an award in recognition of the best published article submitted by an NCIS member. The article must have been published within the prior calendar year. The prize consists of an award certificate and a $200 honorarium.
NCIS members wishing to submit a published article for consideration must send one copy of the article and the table of contents of the journal issue in which it appeared in PDF format to Kendra Preston Leonard, Chair of the Awards Committee, at caennen@gmail.com.
The deadline for submissions is July 15, 2008. Winners will be notified by September 15, 2008.

Foundations On-Line: Intended primarily for use by non-profit organizations seeking fund-raising assistance or foundation support
The Foundation Center: Some time ago, this was an unsatisfactory site, which served largely to push sales of a CD-Rom product and provide limited information about the Center itself (not much use to a grant seeker out in the countryside). However, it has now been considerably expanded and offers helpful information and a limited search capacity. It is worth a visit.
Council on Foundations: Offers assistance/information to grant making foundations. Offers links to pages for associations of grantmakers, philanthropy research centers. Good for background information, general research, not the best first stop for lists of available grants.

The Internet Prospector: Originally created by members of the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement, but now at its own web address, a site intended primarily for professional non-profit fundraisers. Well-organized, comprehensive, and lively. Provides not only links to foundations/grants but also advice on using the Internet more efficiently, information on business ethics (see below, under Reference), and other useful information. Recommended. The APRA also maintains a free electronic discussion group. You can subscribe at this site.
